Depending on the severity of the oil leak. Do these leak from a particular place?

I steered clear of that VW after the good voice of oppo made it a clearly bad choice .

No, I believe it's the ignition coil that usually leaks on those, pretty sure.

Usually they leak oil from the engine. If it’s leaking oil from anywhere else, I would not buy this car.

With a vent mounted air freshener, I’d be wary .

“Depending on the severity of the oil leak” is not a phrase that inspires confidence in any scenario

I wonder if an d how badly it was overheated. Seems NP though, assuming the engine doesn't need to come out.

I had a 2003 Civic Ex sedan with the automatic. Probably most reliable car I ever owned. Bought it off of my sister in 2011, gave it to my brother last year. He’s still driving it as it approaches 200k. That car survived getting flooded in Hurricane Matthew.

My Civic leaked oil from the drain plug, because the oil pan is aluminum and the drain plug is harder metal. After a lot of oil changes, the plug doesn't fit as well as it used to. I switched to an oversize plug which is just ever so slightly bigger and that worked for a year or so. Finally I just replaced the oil pan.

We had a 2003 EX for 150K miles.

4AT design is bad. Filters get clogged with clutch particles and overheats and slips. Fluid change is like, 60K mile item? Even with changes every 20K we still needed a transmission at 65K miles. Warranty covered it, but I changed the fluid every 10K just to keep it clean. Look for slipping during upshifts when cold.

If the oil leak is on the driver’s side, we had one of those too. Never left a drip on the driveway so we let it ride.

You can’t go wrong for $1000.

Looks like there is a plug behind the EGR that leaks fairly often.

I’d be more than willing to replace a pan. I’d want a Fumoto for it anyways.

My coworker has a 2002 EX with 200k miles on it she’s looking to replace soon. We were talking about car problems, and she showed me her records of all the reapirs/work shes done. Most of it was oil changes and a few timing belts. The only real issue she had documented was an oil leak from the cam cover, so maybe check around there.

Cam covers leak . Is it VTEC? I have seen the VTEC oil solenoid straight up hemorrhage oil out of them.

Valve cover, front main seal, rear main seal, head gasket.

The first 2 are pretty simple, the other 2 are pretty in depth/expensive.

The other place most Hondas “leak” is straight out the exhaust pipe.

Given they just replaced the Radiator/ Thermostat, that’s kinda a red flag it’s been overheating, which would lead me to believe Head Gasket.

Looks like the rear cam c over is a common leak area. Definitely want to talk about why radiator was done.

I can almost guarantee it was overheated.

I’d be very wary about buying anything that’s had major cooling components replaced recently, it’s usually a sign of bigger issues from my experience.

Valve cover or oil pan are the two most common I see. Both aren’t terrible. I think you might have to fiddle around the exhaust to drop the pan tho.

OOoh ooh! I literally just fixed an oil leak on mine! If it's the cam seal, it's a $1.50 part and 10 minutes of labour. If it's the v-tech version, it could be the v-tech solenoid, which is still an easy job (in theory).  I've owned mine for more than 10 years. If you have any questions, let me know!
